So, I’ve had my Facespace account since forever. Like I got it back when you still needed an .edu email to sign up. That was ages ago. ‘Round about 2008 or so. I’m not good with time, but probably around there. So, imagine my surprise when I logged in the other day and got hit with a message saying, “Your account has been deleted.” I was like, Wha…?
There are basically two reasons why Facespace will delete your account: either they think you’ve broken community guidelines, or they don’t believe you are who you say you are. I’m pretty sure I didn’t break any rules. My posts were pretty tame. Like the groups I hung out in were things like: The Dull Men’s Club, Photographic Fungi, The Cloud Appreciation Society, and so on. Nothing radical there.
As for the “not who you say you are” thing, well, I don’t use my real name online. That’s just basic security. I’m not about to hand all my personal info to web crawlers. Call me old fashioned like that. Which means sending Meta my ID wouldn’t help anyway, since it doesn’t match the name on my account. Not that I would. Seriously, send them a photo of my driver’s license just to get my account back? Thanks, but no thanks.
Anyway, that’s fifteen-ish years down the drain. And since Instabook is connected to Facespace, that’s gone too. And I was just getting my Instabook off the ground, too. Oh well, it is what it is.
Maybe someday I’ll make a new account and see how long it lasts, but honestly, the idea of setting up a new email and everything sounds exhausting. I don’t know how people juggle a dozen email addresses. Like, I can barely keep track of two because I always forget the second one exists.
That said, I’ve actually gotten quite a bit done without social media sucking up all my time. I finished editing my book (though now I’m not sure what to do with it because everything after this point costs money, apparently). I’ve also inched closer to finishing some sewing projects. I’m disabled, y’all, so it takes time to do things. But I’m getting there. And hey, I’m totally catching up on my reading, so there’s that.
Thanks for reading. Take care.
