A long time ago, in the distant land of California, I was totally out of shape. Almost as out of shape as I am now, but younger and with fewer chronic illnesses. Back then, I’d just had the last of my four kids in as many years and my body was pretty wrecked. Anyway, I decided that I wanted to take control of my health so I went on a “healthy” diet and started walking.
Now, being near to 260 lbs (~117.9kg or about 18 stone and 8lbs) and not in good shape means I couldn’t just go out and hoof it for miles and miles off the bat. So I took it slow. Two blocks out, two blocks back, and I was shaking and covered in sweat by the time I came back. But I did it every day. And it wasn’t much longer before I could go four blocks, then five… and so on. I’m not sure how long it took, but eventually I was walking a mile out and back a day. Persistence, y’all. Start small and work up.
I think it also helped that I really liked where I was living at the time and enjoyed walking there. It was nice and safe, and there were trees everywhere. Honestly? I don’t like my neighborhood here and I think that’s one of the reasons why even though I want to walk here, I just… don’t. Which is kind of sad because one of the reasons why we chose this house specifically is because it’s a walk away from the dog park down the road. Sigh. I think we’ve been there like a dozen times in the six years we’ve lived here. Mainly because I don’t like walking around here.
But you know that’s a me problem. And if I want to get back into shape I should probably get over it. I see people walking past my house every day so it can’t be that bad. You know? Maybe I should do what I did oh so long ago and start small. Two blocks out and two blocks back, then work my way up. Who knows? By the time I’m seventy I might be healthy, wealthy, and wise. Ha! It could happen. 😛
Thanks for reading, y’all. Take care, and I’ll chat at you later. Love y’all.
