Fussing in Photoshop

Many, many years ago, I got Photoshop and started learning how to use it in order to keep my mind occupied while sitting here. I don’t really plan on doing anything with my mad Photoshop skills other than knowing them. I had a vague idea of maybe publishing a coloring book for adults with a video game theme. For peps like my husband… I even have several pages made, but I’m like, who can compete with all of the AI stuff that’s being churned out nowadays? I dunno, maybe I’ll get back to that again.

Anyway, yesterday I wanted something to do aside from watch videos so I downloaded a picture from Pinterest. I don’t know who the original artist is. If you do, let me know, and I’ll credit them. People share, the artist gets lost. It’s not me. But I’m not making money from this blog, and I’m not claiming this as my own, so I’m not stealing it. Anyway, here’s the picture I found:

What I did with this is expand it from the phone dimensions by cropping it bigger and using the generative AI. Don’t fuss at me about AI, it’s a tool, nothing more. I could have gone through dozens of photos and tried to line up trees and get similar results. But this was faster and I wanted to use my energy for other things, like winterizing the picture.

It’s super easy to add snow to a picture in Photoshop. Like, there are tons of tutorials on how to do it. Like, I even have paintbrushes that will add snow with a couple of clicks and they’ll look semi-realistic. I use them all the time on pictures that already have snow and clouds in them. But making a picture that’s set in a different season look snowy, that’s a different animal altogether. If I just slapped falling snow on the picture above it would look soooo fake. There has to be snow on the bells, beads, and the tree branches.

And I couldn’t just tell the AI to add snow there either, the surfaces are too small and varied. Nope, I had to kinda hand paint them there, or create snow, and figure out where it would be, then make it look realistic. Then change the atmosphere so it wasn’t so sunny, but not make it too gloomy, and make the bells not disappear in it all. I kind of ran out of energy towards the end so it’s not as good as it could be, but this is what I came up with:

Not bad for a first try. If my energy had held out, I could have fussed with it more and made it more realistic, but this works.

If I don’t see you tomorrow, have a cool Yule, y’all. Take care of yourself, and I’ll chat at you later.

I always wanted to learn photoshop, but every time I started, I realized how much self-work it was and quickly gave up 😀

It is a steep learning curve, and it took me **years** to get anywhere near good. But I have a lot of time on my hands, so that helps. 🙂

      To you as well!

Welcome, welcome, welcome.

Come on in and make yourself at home. My place is small, but I try to keep it tidy. Ignore the dust in the corners and the dog hair under the furniture. Just push those clothes aside…

Want a drink? I’ve got… uh… water. But it’s sparkling water. ^_^
